Gender of Nouns
Because gender is usually arbitrary, it's a good idea to learn the definite article whenever you learn a new noun.

| la chica | the girl | feminine |
| el libro | the book | masculine |
| la revista | the magazine | feminine |
In Spanish there are four definite articles: el,la,los,las. In this lesson, we only mention "el" and "la." The entire topic is covered more completely in a later lesson.
